Manufactured Dream
Manufactured Dreams explores places designed to produce happiness: attractions, food stands, colorful architecture, landscaped spaces, and objects created to promise pleasure and entertainment. Yet, when emptied of visitors, something shifts. The colors remain, but the dream seems absent. Photographed in moments of waiting under grey skies, in the rain, when businesses are closed and attractions stand still these spaces become slightly strange and melancholic. The series explores the tension between artifice and reality, desire and absence, promise and what remains. Ultimately, Manufactured Dreams is less about America than about our need to construct places capable of producing dreamsand what appears when the dream itself is no longer there.
